CRISPR/Cas is a promising tool to tackle genetic diseases. However, non-viral vectors with good transfection efficiency often struggle with high cytotoxicity. In the presented paper, calcium nanoparticles were modified with chitosan. The effects on transfection efficiency and cytotoxicity were then investigated.
Around one third of all type-2 diabetes sufferers develop diabetic foot ulcers in the course of their disease. Due to biofilm formation and multi-resistant bacteria, inflammation occurs in 50% of those affected. This article presents a study investigating the treatment of these with chitosan-containing metallic nanoparticles coupled to toluidine blue as a photosensitizer.

Various polysaccharides such as chitosan and β-glucan possess immunological properties that are advantageous for vaccine adjuvants. Therefore, in the presented study, chitosan and carboxymethyl-β-glucan were combined as nanoparticles, coupled to the model antigen ovalbumin as vaccine adjuvant and investigated in vivo in a mouse model.
