Provides Chitosan a better bioavailability of antitumor drugs?

Varthya et al shown in an in vitro and in vivo study that tamoxifen loaded in a chitosan-lecithin nanoparticle improve the bioavailability of the drug in a cancer cell model as well as through the oral route. The nanoparticles with a size of around 169.66 nm shown also a prolonged in vitro release of the drug. The antitumor efficiency was significantly exhibited in the DMBA induced breast cancer model even if the tamoxifen loaded particles are administered once in three days in comparison to a daily dosage of tamoxifen alone. So chitosan containing nanoparticles shown the potential to increase the therapeutic efficiency of drugs.
