Allergy Association Europe discovers chitosan
Under the title „Chitosan - an antimicrobial substance made from crab shells and mold fungi - widly applicable in Medicine and industry" the author Andreas Steneberg, member of the board of the Allergy Association Europe reports about chitosan.
After an introduction into chitosan production he highlights the positive characteristics of the bio polymer, that lead to general areas of application.
Since the article appeared in the column Candida news, particular attention was paid to applications in the medical field and he related more in detail to current research results investigating fungicide enhancing properties of chitosan.
For the author this polymer is a "alternative active ingredient with a broad application sprectrum to prevent and medicate mycoses". In combination with common antifungal agents chitosan boosts these active ingredients and raises hope in mycosis therapy.
