American start-up for wound care solutions

american start-up for chitosan wound care solutions PhD students in Maryland (University of Maryland and Robert H. Smith School of Business) found their own start-up to develop blood-clotting products. Already two products are in a development phase. A surgical spray   and a sponge, both based on chitosan.

The main focus of Remedium Technologies, a start-up, is the development of biomaterials which can successfully be used for blood-clotting. Members of the team are:

Matthew Dowling, Peter Thomas, Bani Cipriano, Oluwatosin Ogunsola, Akinola Dosunmu.

Currently their products are undergoing pre-clinical tests and within the next two years they plan on further development and FDA approval.

The used technology was developed in a cooperation of the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (ChBE) with the Fischell Department of Bioengineering (BioE) at the University of Maryland.

Professor Gregory Payne, director of the Centre for Biosystems Research at the University of Maryland, declares on CBS chitosan as a good compound for use in hemostatic bandages due ability to interact with human tissue and its anti-microbial and biocompatible nature.
